SUSTAINING ENGINEER
Summary:
Responsible for sustaining operations process support with primary focus on process flow improvement, documentation, engineering masters, routers/ travelers, drawings and the use of standardized engineering conventions (ANSI, ISO). Will be active in product design and print reviews for manufacturability. Emphasis on standardizing documented processes with mature and evolving product lines. Analyze and recommend improvements in manufacturing processes and necessary fixturing requirements for all production areas. Champion improvements generated from Kaizen and other Lean Events. Ability to troubleshoot, recommend process corrections, cost reduction initiatives and method improvements. Requires excellent communication and project management skills. Essential Duties:
- Analyzes and improves manufacturing techniques and processes by investigating existing procedures, tooling, costs, and alternate methods; implements necessary changes to improve component cost and quality.
- Coordinates/directs the fabrication, construction, and implementation of tooling and production aids. Communicates with vendors, and in-house personnel to receive quotations, answer questions, and resolve problems.
- Utilize Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools, as applicable, to reduce process variation, eliminate non-value added activities and defects and improve customer satisfaction.
- Accepts duties from Manufacturing Engineering Manager as required
- Analyzes quality and production efficiency and recommends process/design & fixturing improvements to Resource Managers.
- Provides technical direction (training) as required to hourly production workers.
- Follows ISO manufacturing guidelines
- May have customer contact to provide solutions to part configuration or quality problems.
- Attend Trade Shows as required.
- Such other duties as deemed necessary.
- Effective communications through out all levels of the organization.
- Use of Microsoft Office Suite programs
- Use of Solidworks Modeling and Autocad design platforms.
Physical Requirements::
Ability to sit, stand and move throughout buildings upstairs and down as required and lift 35-50 # occasionally. May need to train on Forklift use. Assembly, light machining and plastics manufacturing and testing environment, general office environment.
Other Requirements / Competencies:
Knowledgeable with MRP/ERP management systems, standard documentation practices for BOM, Router/ travelers/ Eng Masters, Drawings. Standard machine shop practices, Injection molding shop practices, Extrusion shop practices and Assembly skills preferred. Use of analytical tools such as FMECA, Root Cause/ RISK analysis/investigation, Designing for Manufacturability, DOE, FEA is preferred. Protocols and Process Validations a plus.
Knowledge of ISO13845 and cGMP practices is preferred
Education / Experience:
BS in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering environment, with 0-2 years engineering experience, preferably in an QSR/FDA/ISO design control environment. Knowledgeable in Lean Manufacturing and Value Stream applications preferred. Recent graduate OK.

SENIOR PLASTIC TECHNICIAN
Summary:
Operate various types of equipment to manufacture a variety of precision extruded / molded parts. This position reports to the Extrusion/Molding Resource Manager.
Essential Duties:
A Sr. Plastic Technician must demonstrate 100% competency in either A or B and have demonstrated ability to meet > 50% of A or B.
Primary
A) Set up and operate all extruder lines and equipment according to applicable Work Instructions and SOP’s. Demonstrated ability to run both vacuum sizing and free extruded method and all raw materials.
B) Set up and operate all Molding lines and equipment and all molding materials according to applicable Work Instructions and SOP’s.
Remove, measure, and visually inspect all finished parts for conformance with specification.
Complete required documentation.
Provide training for Extrusion/Molding operations as necessary.
Work with R&D to set up and develop new jobs.
Performs duties in cross-trained areas, as required.
Use Lean Enterprise methods to reduce waste and complexity in all processes.
Secondary
Clean work area and equipment.
Fill in for other operator positions as necessary.
Perform all other duties and responsibilities that are reasonably assigned from time to time by the employer or its designated representative.
Physical Requirements::
Work overtime as required by production requirements
Wear appropriate protective gear as required to prevent injuries to vision, hearing or burns
Stand/sit or move around as required by job
Safely Lift 50+ pounds frequently with assistance of proper equipment
Participate in on/off site training as required
Other Requirements / Competencies:
- Read, write, communicate, and comprehend the English language.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Extrusion/Molding operations with the ability to start up and run a wide variety of projects with minimal or no supervision.
- Acceptable mechanical ability.
- Ability to operate measuring devices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable Work Instructions and SOP’s.
- Must be able to perform basic math functions and elementary computer skills.
- Demonstrates motivation to continue personal growth in expertise, training, and ability.
- Able to coordinate on a dynamic basis all required skills and training, including quality control, to trouble shoot problems, recommend or implement solutions or improvements, and efficiently complete assigned projects.
- Good hand/eye coordination.
- Good manual dexterity.
- Correctable vision adequate to conduct part inspection.
- Requires operation of equipment with exposed moving surfaces.
- Potential physical contact with heated machine surfaces and chemicals used in the manufacturing of silicone parts.
- Cleanroom environment including company provided attire.
- Restriction on activities with respect to noise and air purity.
- Machine operation may result in moderate to severe noise levels.
- Moderate stress level.
- Involves standing for long periods of time.
- Must possess ability to be socially interactive with other employees and co-workers.
Education / Experience:
High School Graduate or GED. An understanding of machine control systems must also be demonstrated with mechanical aptitude and experience with manufacturing equipment required. 3-5 years injection molding and or extrusion experience involving engineered thermoplastics and fluoropolymers preferred. Knowledge of engineering thermoplastic resins recommended. Fundamental knowledge and experience in mechanics, hydraulics and basic electronics as necessary to safely manage production equipment is required. Good basic mathematical skills, including percentages and fractions. Computer literacy in Microsoft Windows XP and file maintenance.
