Injection Valve

Making connections between your pump and your injection valve is fairly straightforward. You will typically be using either 1/16" OD Stainless Steel tubing or 1/16" OD PEEK™ tubing--something capable of handling the pressure load that typically exists after the pump. We usually recommend our stainless steel U-112 (10 cm long) or the U-113 (20 cm long) for stainless steel needs and the 1531B PEEK tubing (5 feet long) for biocompatible applications, easily cut with our A-327 Polymer Tubing Cutter.

The type of fitting required to connect your tubing to your injection valve is normally the same as the fitting used in conjunction with your pump, that is, a 10-32 threaded, coned fitting. However, because one of the most popular injection valve manufacturers in the HPLC market is Rheodyne, there is one constraint that should be considered before choosing the correct fitting. On the older versions of Rheodyne's valves, the threaded ports on the valve's stator face were designed very close together. This allowed for compact connections, but also made it difficult to fit the fittings in the constrained space. To accommodate the closeness of the ports, the fittings typically used to make connections to the older valves are often longer than the standard fitting. The extra length provides better access to the head of the fittings, allowing the units to be tightened and loosened with greater ease. Based on these constraints, we recommend three potential Extra-Long Fittings to choose from. The first two are polymer fittings: F-130 a one-piece, extra-long Fingertight fitting; and a F-287, an extra-long version of our popular SealTight™ Fingertight fittings. The third choice is a stainless steel option, our U-313 Rheodyne-compatible extra-long nut, designed to be used with either the U-312 (older style) or U-314 (newer style) stainless steel ferrules.

Upchurch Scientific also manufacturers a line of injection valves for low pressure applications (up to 1,000 psi). Please contact us for specific valve and fittings recommendations.

Besides tubing and fittings, Upchurch Scientific carries a line of injection valve accessories that are particularly tailored to Rheodyne injection valves. These include Rotor Seals and a wide selection of both Stainless Steel and PEEK Polymer Sample Loops. For manual injection valves, we recommend our R-125 rotor seal. This product is manufactured primarily from PEEK polymer, and is designed to outlast competitive products at a less expensive price. For automatic injection valves, we recommend the R-128 rotor seal, specifically designed for automatic valves and offering the same physical features and benefits as our other rotor seals.

Upchurch Scientific offers stainless steel and PEEK polymer sample loops in volumes ranging from 2ul - 20 mL. For a complete listing of these products, please go to the PRODUCTS section of our site.
